The selection of plus size bathing suits is better than ever for full figured women. Yay! Manufacturers are beginning to acknowledge the fact that there are a lot of plus size women out there who want swimwear that is functional, comfortable, fun to wear and saucy!

Retailers are showing a bigger selection of plus size swimwear styles that are designed to flatter your figure so you can look and feel beautiful and sexy when you are at the beach or pool.

For most women, however, choosing the right plus size bathing suit may be stressful, but so is buying anything you wear. Bathing suit shopping should be approached in the same way you shop for dresses and tops. The very things you have learned about your body type and how to accentuate the positives while minimizing the negatives can be applied to buying a plus size bathing suit as well.

Knowing your measurements is so important. And ladies, if there ever was a time to be realistic about your size, this is it. Find the proper size and don't let the number be an issue. Most bathing suits, including plus size bathing suits, run small so you may need to buy a size up or two. When measuring yourself, be sure you take your torso measurements if you plan on buying a one-piece swimsuit. You don't want to end up buying a swimsuit that is too short or too long.

There are many options today in swimwear for plus size women. To find out what to look for in one piece bathing suits and two piece bathing suits, lick on the links below.

Bikini styles are not usually flattering to plus size women but there are plus size bikini styles that will make you a beach hottie. If taking the plunge, then opt for a high waist bottom that also provides some upper thigh coverage. If you have a full bust, be sure the bikini top offers enough support.

BRA SUPPORT: First and foremost, a plus size woman with a full bust should consider the type of support that is built into a suit. A suit that has a built-in bra will offer much more support than one with a shelf bra, and the best suits are ones sized to standard bra measurements. Most online retailers offer plus size bathing suits in larger bra sizes that give the necessary support. Some manufacturers offer suits that are constructed of two layers - the outer layer and an inner body suit type lining that supports and slenderizes. This double layering comes with an underwire bra that provides support.

How to Keep Your Bathing Suit in
Tip Top Shape

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FABRIC  - Quality fabric in a bathing suit is just as important as wearing quality fabric for all your clothing. If you are buying a plus size bathing suit to wear in the pool, check the fabric content. Bathing suits that are primarily cotton or Lycra will quickly fade due to the chlorine. Lycra will also lose its stretch over time. The best bet is to look for a suit made of a polyester blend. There are also suits that are made to be resistant to chlorine, and while they are more expensive, they will be far more durable and last longer. So you will probably save money over time.

BE AWARE that hot tubs, washing machines and suntan oils are just as degenerative to swimwear as chlorine.

BATHING SUITS ARE NOT MEANT FOR THE WATER - I'm not kidding! Swimwear not only takes a beating from chlorine, but also from salt water. If you must go in the water, then be sure to rinse your bathing suit thoroughly afterwards with cool water until you have a chance to wash it properly.

WASHING YOUR SUIT - Never use a washer to clean your suit. Instead, fill a tub or sink with cool water and add a gentle detergent to wash it. Then gently massage the suit in soapy, cool water. Empty the tub or sink and fill it with cool water again, then gently massage your suit to remove all the soap residue. Gently squeeze the excess water out.

NEVER WRING OR TWIST your suit to remove excess water.

NEVER PUT IT IN THE DRYER. Lay it on a towel on a flat surface to dry. Do not dry in it in the sun since this will fade your suit even more.

SAY NO to dry cleaning and bleach.

Now go, enjoy the sun and water!
